BoatWiki - Definitions
Aug 6, 2023 - Portside can be defined in boating terms as any area of a boat related to it's left side when facing toward the bow or front of a boat. Although less common, it can also reference a boats position as adjacent to a sea port.
The terms portside and starboard are nautical references related to either the left or right side of a boat respectively.
Such terminology is only relevant to titling and registration when it comes to the placement of registration numbering or tabs. However, they are significant to the placement of running lights, relationships to navigational aids and directional navigation.
This term should be basic and instantly recognized by anyone who is operating or assisting in the operation of a boat.
