Boat Dealer
BoatWiki - Definitions
Definition
A boat dealer can be defined as a business entity that sells new watercraft, boats, or yachts. These may be domestically produced or foreign imported. Such items may come from their own inventory or special ordered from the manufacturer. A boat dealer may also sell used boats or function as a boat broker.
Meaning
From an operational perspective, a boat dealer functions in a similar manner as a vehicle dealer. The main difference is that some dealers are basically manufacturer representatives and do not maintain a physical inventory.
Context
Boat dealers in the marine industry are generally more regulated than boat brokers from a licensing perspective. As a general rule they will also process state level titling and registration when it comes their own products.
Conclusion
Although most boat dealers are well established and reputable, this may not always be the case. Boaters contemplating the purchase of a new boat or yacht should accordingly exercise due diligence in checking out their background, credentials and business standing.
