NMFS Vessel Documentation Search WikiTags/LinksWikiShare

BoatWiki - Databases

Introduction

The National Marine Fisheries Service(NMFS) is provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This is a government agency that hosts an online vessel documentation database search.

Data

This search offers preliminary details about currently documented vessels.  Ownership information is, however, redacted due to consumer privacy issues. The database is searchable by the official documentation number, hull identification number, and the vessel's name.

Access

The NMF search website can be accessed from the above WikiTags. Click on the USCG Vessels link in the left hand column after you have arrived at the site. Be sure then to read the instructions in determining how to go about conducting a search. There is no charge for the service and no account setup is required.

Conclusion

Although somewhat cumbersome and limited in search options, this site does provide reasonably current data. In any event, it is yet another worthwhile resource when seeking out information on documented vessels.  In order to obtain complete and up to date information, you can order an abstract of title from the National Vessel Documentation Center. An order form with directions can be found in the above WikiTags.
