Nov 20, 2023 - Boat registration and title records in Idaho are maintained in a database administered by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Boat title and registration details are integrated into the same system as that for vehicles. Idaho boat registration search lookups and record copies in are made available to owners and certain qualified parties. The following information will provide some insights on how to go about obtaining boat title, registration and historical data in Idaho.

Online Access

The Idaho DMV offers an online boat title and registration search portal (WikiLinks) which is available to owners and certain entitled parties (see privacy requirements in WikiTags). Although designed for vehicles, it can also be used for boats. The service involves a minimal fee for each record.

Access to the DMV database is also available to owners through the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation boat registration renewal portal (WikiLinks).

Telephone Access

The Idaho DMV may confirm the presence of a boat hull identification number in the database system or verify a title or registration certificate in hand by telephone. However, it will not likely provide other detailed information. DMV contact information is available in WikiLinks.

Boat Record Request Form

Boat title, registration and historical records in Idaho may be obtained by submitting a Record Request form (WikiLinks) to the DMV. Although designed for vehicles, this form also applies to boats. However, record printouts can only be obtained in Idaho by an owner, qualified party (see privacy requirements in WikiLinks) or by including an owner record release authorization form (WikiTags). Contact information and a mailing address for the DMV can be found in WikiLinks.

Historical Records

Historical and archived boat registration records are available from the Idaho DMV in conjunction with the records access information provided in this page. However, boat records are not maintained indefinitely in the database system so you will need to contact the DMV (WikiLinks) in order to determine such limitations.

Bulk Records

Boat title and registration records in Idaho may be available as bulk downloads to certain qualified entities. Contact the DMV (WikiTags) for more information.

Nationwide System

Idaho participates in the Vessel Identification System (WikiTags) which is administered by the U.S. Coast Guard. This is a nationwide database wherein most states contribute boat registration data in real-time. Access is only available, however, to law enforcement agencies and other governmental institutions. Anyone concerned about a boat that may have been stolen, abandoned, involved in an incident or is being utilized for illicit activities in state jurisdictional areas should contact a local enforcement agency or boat registration office.

The information provided herein has been obtained from various sources and is subject to change without notice. Any such concerns should be addressed with the respective government agency.
