BoatWiki - Databases

Introduction

Mar 21, 2024 - Georgia boat registration and title records are maintained in a searchable database administered by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Access to such data is available for owners, qualified parties and the general public. The following guidelines will provide some insights on how to lookup boat registration and title information or obtain current and historical records in the State of Georgia.

Online Access

Georgia is one of the few states that provides open public access to their boat registration and title records. It is easily available online from the DNR at no cost without the need for setting up an account. The database portal can be accessed from the Department of Natural Resources boat registration search website (WikiLinks). Here you will be given temporary access by providing your name and email address. This is followed by a return email with a link to the search page which is good for one hour without re-enlisting. You can then search by a specific registration number, download all records for a particular county, or download the entire database. The registration number search will produce an Adobe PDF showing a considerable amount of detail about the owner, boat, registration status, and any active liens. County and statewide downloads are provided in a comma separated value (CSV) text format. These can be subsequently imported into a spreadsheet database application such as Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access. It has been reported by one of our contributors that the downloads appear to updated on a periodic basis, although reasonably current.

The Georgia DNR also offers an online owner portal (WikiLinks) for searching, registering, and renewing a boat registration. This will entail the establishment of a login account.

Telephone Access

The Georgia DNR may confirm the presence of a hull identification number in their system and verify a title or registration certificate in hand by telephone. However, it will not likely provide any further details, especially as related to ownership data. DNR contact information is available in WikiLinks.

Boat Record Request

Boat registration, title and historical records may be obtained from the Georgia DNR by submitting a request form (WikiTags). Contact information can be found in WikiLinks.

Historical Records

Historical or archived boat registration records are available from the Georgia DNR by submitting a boat record request form (WikiTags). Such data is not, however, maintained indefinitely.

Bulk Records

Georgia boat registration records in bulk may be available to certain commercial enterprises. Contact the Department of Natural Resources (WikiTags) for more information.

Nationwide System

Georgia subscribes to the Vessel Identification System (WikiTags) which is administered by the U.S. Coast Guard. This is a nationwide database wherein most states contribute boat registration data in real-time. Access is only available, however, to law enforcement agencies and other governmental institutions. Anyone concerned about a boat that may have been stolen, abandoned, involved in an incident or is being utilized for illicit activities in state jurisdictional areas should contact a local enforcement agency or boat registration office.

Conclusion

The information provided herein has been obtained from various sources and may be subject to change without notice. Any such concerns should be addressed directly with the respective government agency.
