Vessel Documentation Status Check
BoatWiki - Databases
Introduction
The USCG vessel documentation status check will allow vessel owners to check on whether their submissions have been received by the National Vessel Documentation Center. It also serves as a resource to determine whether a hull identification number exists in their system for all documented vessels whether current, inactive, or archived. In also provides a cross-reference between the hull identification number and official documentation number.
Access
The database is available online free of charge with no registration or login required. You must provide the official documentation number. hull identification number, or manufacturer hull number. The hull identification number field is used for fully formatted hull numbers and the manufacturer identification number field is used for short or non-formatted hull numbers.
Data Provided
As a status check, the database will return the vessel's name, the type of submission, the date received, and whether by email or regular mail. If the identification numbers are valid and there is no longer anything in progress, it will indicate no work items. If the identification numbers are not found in the database at all, it will indicate no data found and show the respective numbers as invalid. Positive finds will show a cross reference between the hull number of record and the official documentation number.
Conclusion
The database is updated daily, however at least two days should be allowed for a status check. Although not long on details, it provides another valuable tool for research purposes. Please help your fellow boaters by wiki-sharing any comments or experiences with this database search.
