Introduction
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is a data system managed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In addition to stolen boats, it includes criminal record history information, fugitives, other stolen properties, and missing persons. Such information is provided by the FBI, federal, state, local and foreign criminal justice agencies, and authorized courts. The above WikiTags link will provide more information as to what this system is all about
Access
The NCIC is available to all governmental and law enforcement agencies nationwide. It can not, however, be directly accessed by the general public. Any interested parties must, therefore, contact a local police or sheriffs department in hopes of enlisting their cooperation for a lookup search. Although this can vary widely among jurisdictions, you may get some answers if there is sufficient cause to believe that a particular boat may have been stolen. When making contact, be ready to provide the boat's full description and all relevant identification numbers.
