Boat Alert History Report
BoatWiki - Databases
Introduction
Boat Alert is a Canadian based website that offers an online history report for both U.S. and Canadian boats. Although a relatively new player here in the United States, they are actively pursuing this marketplace. Their report findings are apparently garnered from openly available sources and it is unknown as to whether they maintain any proprietary databases. The Boat Alert website offers a typical interface where you enter a hull identification number which then draws you into purchasing the service. However, it may initially provide some indication as to whether the subject boat is USCG documented, has been registered in a particular state, or is Canadian registered.
Access
Their website can be accessed from WikiLinks and is immediately available online. The interface is fairly straight forward where you enter a hull number which then displays some preliminary findings. It is not searchable by any other criteria. Subscriptions for single or multiple reports are fairly low compared to other services of this type.
Data Provided
Search results are immediately available and consist of a lengthy report that is somewhat confusing. It is also quite distended with ancillary findings, many of which are irrelevant. As is typical of these online boat history reports, the data is not fully conclusive and the manner of presentation can be misleading.
Conclusion
Team BoatWiki does not have much by way of reviews for this service and the efficacy of their customer support remains unknown. Although their fee is minimal, we suggest caution in relying too much on the reports until more is known about their veracity.
